Charlotte’s Web Caught in a Sticky Class Action Suit for False Labeling of CBD Products

Charlotte’s Web, one of the most widely recognized brands in the industry, is under fire for improperly labeling some of their product and misleading consumers. A class action lawsuit has begun in the Northern District of Illinois because two salve products that claim to contain 750mg of hemp extract have been tested to contain less than half that amount of hemp extract.

The CBD market explosion that has occurred in recent years has led to a market flooded with every kind of product imaginable being infused with CBD. In such a new, not-yet-regulated market consumers are left wondering whether the products they purchase truly contain enough CBD to be effective. As rules emerge and more testing facilities become available, it has become extremely important for each company to responsibly source and label products.

While Benson vs. Charlotte’s Web may leave an unattractive mark on a major player in the CBD game, ultimately this is good news for the consumer and leads to greater transparency and responsibility in the CBD marketplace.
