Hemp Benchmarks August 2026 Hemp Spot Price Index Report
August 26, 2026

As the federal gray-market cannabinoid market faces an accelerating countdown as regional state bans and federal statutory shifts converge, wholesale prices continued their downward trend with distillates and isolates experiencing the largest price declines. Under federal continuing appropriations legislation, the national compliance definition for hemp shifts on November 12, 2026. The new standard enforces a hard 0.4 mg total THC cap per finished container (combining delta-9, THCA, delta-8, and other psychoactive isomers).

In response to state-level enforcement and the approaching November federal cap, extractors are continuing to promote large discounts for distillates and isolates sold in bulk, driving down raw material valuations across the extraction landscape. The CBN Isolate and CBD Distillate product categories saw the largest price erosion in August, losing 19.6% and 17.4%, respectively. For the third month in a row the CBD Isolate price has decreased, this month by 6%, or nearly $20 per kilo. The CBD Isolate benchmark is down 34% year-over-year. CBD Broad Spectrum Distillate prices lost a marginal 1%, while Full Spectrum CBD Distillate products lost 2% in value and is on a nine-month downward slide.

Prices for seed genetics held relatively steady this month, although the prices for clones declined. CBD Clones lost 7%, while CBG Clones shed 10% to close out the month. The popularity of THCa flower continues to keep prices at a premium. The aggregate THCa Flower category saw a rise of 1.9%, led by a 7.4% surge in the average price for greenhouse grown product. Indoor and greenhouse grown CBD Flower also had positive movement this month, gaining 8.5% and 8.1%, respectively.

HHC Distillate and THC-O Distillate also continued to see price declines, as did THCa Isolate and THCv Isolate. THCa Isolate lost $110 per kilo while THCv Isolate shed $166 per kilo. For both product types, the high end of the price range fell by several hundred dollars. CBG Distillate lost a mere $1 per kilo in August, and the CBG Isolate benchmark decreased by $19 per kilo.

The cost to ship hemp on both Dry Van and Sprinter van rose by 3%. The rise in shipping costs can be mainly attributed to tightening trailer availability on outbound runs as requests for shippers to move fall retail and back-to-school inventory, as well as steady demand for time-critical parts and freight on long-haul routes before quarter-end.
