Wholesale prices for hemp and hemp-derived products demonstrated relative stability across many product categories during the month of July. As we enter our 6th growing season of reporting, a more measured supply of harvested hemp from prior years has resulted in prices for the majority of product categories experiencing double digit percentage growth from a year ago.
Throughout our history of reporting on the U.S. hemp market, CBD biomass has underperformed expectations, steadily dropping in value as a rush to enter the market along with unregulated production positioned the supply far out of the reach of consumer demand. In the case of CBD biomass, the market ultimately regulated itself, and despite the hardships it may have caused, those that have refined their planting strategies and solidified relationships with buyers are now receiving the best prices since early 2021. The aggregate CBD biomass category price assessment has risen 10% since July 2024, holding steady for the last 4 months. Prices for CBG biomass, a varietal that sparked great interest initially, experienced a precipitous price decline in early 2021, yet the price assessment has remained within a $0.08 range since the start of 2024 (measured by the $ per percentage point of CBG).
Prices for CBD genetics saw a slight decline in July, as demand for seeds diminished in the U.S., save for those growing indoors or in greenhouses for smokable flower. As the preferred growing conditions for THCa flower, warehouse and mixed-light grows have redirected the efforts of some cultivators, which indirectly helped to keep Feminized CBD Seed prices stable. Prices for industrial hemp seeds diminished slightly compared to last month, although more interest in grain and fiber from hemp is developing in the northern latitudes.
THC Free CBD distillate, Broad Spectrum CBD distillate, and Full Spectrum CBD distillate all had slight increases in average price this month. The aggregate Refined CBD Hemp Oil category moved 3% higher and is up 8% year-over year. CBD Isolate prices held steady, with a $2 increase per kilo, and is now up 37% compared to last July. As demand for intoxicating compounds stays strong, CBD Isolate prices — and producers — have benefited.
The Smokable CBD Flower price continues to rise, reaching a new peak price. The increasing price trend is almost exclusively dependent on indoor and greenhouse grown flower, which is rightfully preferred for smoking as the growing conditions for these cultivation methods allow for flushing any nutrients and impurities prior to harvesting, resulting in a much less harsh final product. Outdoor grown CBD flower is still present, and will be, but is often sold at discounted prices as well as used for infusions, or spraying of intoxicants, to increase its appeal.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Climate Prediction Center recently updated their monthly outlook for August 2025.
The chance for above normal temperatures in New England, the northern Midwest, and in all states west of the Great Plains persists in the latest forecast from the NWS. Although the North American Monsoon season is fully underway, the high-pressure system has positioned itself over the Great Basin, west of the Four Corners, and has prevented moisture from being pulled from the Gulf of Mexico into the southwestern United States, increasing expectations for equal to below average rainfall for the region. With already higher than normal rainfall in the southeastern U.S., more precipitation is expected as Atlantic Ocean temperatures currently exceed the average and a low-pressure flow pulls moisture into the region.
