As cultivators in northern latitudes prepare for this year’s harvest, and those in the south may already be drying their crops, this month’s wholesale price assessments for a large majority of hemp and hemp-derived products began to level off. With contracts in place for the upcoming fresh material, many cultivators are taking measures to make room for processing this year’s crop while a supply/demand equilibrium is being maintained for inputs used to manufacture products that continue to navigate regulatory uncertainty.
September CBD Biomass prices fell in the aggregate and lower-volume categories, as did CBG Biomass, tempering the 2025 upward price trend that had positioned the raw materials at their highest price assessments since 2022. Unsurprisingly, seed prices for CBD, CBG, and fiber varietals fell, as domestic demand is at its lowest due to the time of year and international purchases continue to be dominated by large volumes of lower quality stock.
With continued rising prices for indoor grown smokable flower, of both CBD and THCa varieties, clone prices have followed suit to meet the surging demand. Indoor grown THCa flower prices increased by 8% this month, as more products reach consumers in markets without legal cannabis laws, or those with restrictive medical cannabis access. Coupled with rising greenhouse grown THCa flower, the aggregate THCa price assessment skyrocketed up over 17%, and is now within $100 of the current Cannabis Benchmarks US Cannabis Spot Index price per pound benchmark.
Smokable CBD flower prices increased for the seventh consecutive month, gaining 4% per pound this month. Despite a slight decrease in the price assessments of indoor and greenhouse grown flower, an increase in the proportion of transactions for these higher-priced goods propelled the aggregate price up to another all-time high.
Although CBD Isolate prices fell 1% this month, they remain over 31% higher than they were in September 2024. As the primary input for many products in high-demand by consumers across the country, prices for pure cannabidiol have been relatively steady for the past four months, only varying by $6 during that timeframe.
Wholesale prices for CBG Distillate lost a mere 1% this month, showing signs of leveling off after declining since March of this year. While CBN Isolate prices saw a decline of 4.7% in September, THCv Isolate prices were able to regain recent losses, increasing by 3.6% per kilogram.
After climbing for the past three months, domestic transportation costs using dry van and sprinter van methods saw a 3.5% decrease this month. The hemp shipping industry in the U.S. remains stagnant, yet international transportation for products of all types is steadily increasing. Be on the lookout for import/export reporting in 2026.
