In an effort to make hemp growing as accessible to farmers as any other crop, the USDA has announced two new risk management programs to protect hemp producers.
The first plan offered through Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) would provide coverage against insurable causes of loss for hemp grown for any cause. The second plan – Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) – would protect against unexpected low yields, destroyed crops, and prevented planting in those areas lacking a permanent federal crop insurance program.
The deadline to sign up for both programs is set for March 16, 2020.
